Are wasps going into the roof? Are wasps going into a hole in the cavity or ground? Are wasps going under the fascia? Are wasps using an air brick? If the answer is 'yes' to any of the above you may have an active wasps' nest.
What not to do
Do not be tempted to block the hole up, this will make them angry and aggressive and they may find another entrance. Wasps are aggressive and will sting readily if they think the nest is in danger.
Treatment
Nests are treated using an insecticide called FICAM D, which contains Bendiocarb 1% w/w. This is a modern biodegradable insecticide that is not highly toxic to mammals, but is extremely so to the hymenopterous group of insects (wasps, bees, ants). Nests in most cases can be treated and removed on the same day.
After treatment
After the nest has been treated all activity should cease within a few hours. Points to remember:
1. Once a nest has been treated it will not be used again
2. Queens do not move the nest to a new location
3. The same entry point can be re-used but not the same nest
